European Depression Day is on first of October

The link between delayed food allergies and depression

Although  this summer seemed to be almost endless in many places, the days become noticeably shorter. Winter is approaching, and for many people this means the end of lightheartedness – the winter blues is nesting in. One possible reason for winter depression is a drop in serotonin levels – the so-called happiness hormone.

But how exactly do delayed food allergies and inflammation contribute to depression?

Studies have shown that there is a connection between stress, inflammation and disease. The key hormone for happiness is serotonin. During chronic stress and inflammation, serotonin is not accurately produced and with time becomes deficient, leading to depression and/or sleep disorders.

Symptoms caused by delayed food allergies may take days to develop, therefore the patients themselves and even medical practitioners cannot make the link between food and disease. This is very unfortunate, because delayed food allergies, as an inflammatory trigger, can often play a major role in depression. Undetected, the triggering foods (so called trigger foods) are routinely eaten and could prevent therapeutic measures from being effective.

Other reactive trigger foods that are also regularly consumed include tree nuts, peanuts, chicken egg, soybeans, and yeast. For most of us, these foods are safe to eat, but if you experience symptoms of a depression, these or other foods you consume on a regular basis might aggravate or enhance your symptoms or may even be responsible.

How can I identify the foods that are causing inflammation in my body?

IgG is a defense protein generated by our immune system. Its task is to bind to a foreign substance called antigen. This antigen is recognized as an invader having the potential to harm the body. The body recognizes the “invader” and induces an inflammatory cascade response designed to destroy the antigen. ImuPro helps to detect the foods which might cause your depression.
