Introduction:
Sea buckthorn is a bright orange stone fruit with a tart and sour taste.
Use/Preparation:
The fruit is mainly sold in processed form, for example as juice, fruit powder or fruit spread.
Health:
Sea buckthorn is particularly known for its high vitamin C content, which is significantly higher than that of fruits such as oranges and lemons. Besides vitamin C, sea buckthorn contains beta-carotene, vitamin B2 and the minerals and trace elements magnesium, calcium and potassium. The nutritional values vary depending on the product.
Alternatives:
Cranberries and rose hips have a similar sour taste reminiscent of sea buckthorn. They are also rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Blueberries or red currants are also suitable and nutrient-rich alternatives.
