Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)

Introduction:

Nutmeg is a precious spice that is even said to have medicinal properties. In terms of taste, it radiates a certain warmth and sweetish pungency. However, it also contains psychoactive substances with a hallucinogenic character.

Use/Preparation:

Nutmeg refines various dishes, especially potato dishes, vegetables such as spinach, curries but also pasta and meat dishes. The nut also adds a touch of spiciness and sweetness to desserts. The aroma develops best when the whole nut is freshly grated. However, the valuable ingredient should only be used in moderation, as it can be poisonous in large quantities.

Excessive consumption can cause symptoms of poisoning such as nausea and vomiting, hallucinations and premature birth or miscarriage.
