Introduction:
Maca is a herbaceous tuberous vegetable originating from South America and belongs to the cruciferous family. The dried and ground tuber, in which vitamins and nutrients are stored, is available commercially. Its nutty-mild and slightly sweet taste harmonises with coconut, cocoa and vanilla.
Use/Preparation:
Maca is often taken as a food supplement in powder or capsule form. The powder can be used in smoothies, juices, yoghurt, cocoa or baked goods.
Health:
The tuber is said to have an aphrodisiac effect and help with hormone regulation, especially in menopausal women. The powder is also said to have a calming effect in stressful situations and to increase mental resilience and mental performance. It also contains various nutrients such as vitamins (B1, B2, C, E) and minerals (calcium, potassium, iron).
