Introduction:
Lamb's lettuce is a winter vegetable that is also called field lettuce or Rapunzel in many places. It is known for its typical nutty aroma and its spicy, tangy flavour.
Use/Preparation:
Lamb's lettuce is mainly used raw for salads. But the nutrient-rich vegetable can also enhance sweet and savoury smoothies. Steamed, it is suitable for soups or stews.
Health:
The winter vegetable is considered healthy mainly because of its high iron, folic acid and vitamin C content. At the same time, the contained vitamin C contributes to a better absorption of the vegetable iron. In addition, lamb's lettuce provides the important minerals magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. Due to its essential valerian oils, it can also have a calming and relaxing effect.
Alternatives:
Spinach in particular is a good substitute because of its comparable properties. Other lettuces such as romaine lettuce, head lettuce or iceberg lettuce also have a mildly nutty flavour.
