Coffee (Coffea spec.)

Introduction:

Coffee is made from the fermented and roasted beans of the coffee cherry. Above all, the roasting of the coffee determines its taste and subsequent aroma. Lighter roasted beans contain more acidity, while the beans with the dark roasting show more typical roasted aromas.

Use/Preparation:

Coffee can be enjoyed as a hot drink, iced coffee, in chocolate, confectionery, desserts, liquor or cocktails.

Health:

The caffeine contained in coffee has a stimulating effect and can improve concentration and performance. Moderate consumption of coffee has been found to have protective effects on the cardiovascular system. In addition, coffee reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and counteracts inflammation. The assumption that coffee dehydrates the body has been disproved. It only stimulates diuresis in the short term, but can make a valuable contribution to hydration. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), 400 mg of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to about 4-5 cups of coffee, is safe for healthy adults.

Caffeinated tea (green or black), cereal coffee (decaffeinated), decaffeinated coffee.
