Introduction:
Chestnut boletus is also known as brown cap, chestnut or blue mushroom. The edible mushroom has a brown to black cap and firm flesh. The appearance and nutty aroma is reminiscent of porcini.
Use/Preparation:
The chestnut boletus tastes good in soups, casseroles, goulash or in mushroom sauces. It can be dried, steamed or fried. It adds a particularly tasty and spicy umami flavour to hearty dishes.
Health:
The chestnut boletus should not be eaten raw, as it can still contain slightly toxic substances. It is rich in vegetable protein and minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and B vitamins.
Alternatives:
Porcini mushrooms are similar to chestnut boletus in appearance and taste. But other edible mushrooms such as chanterelles, mushrooms, herb mushrooms or shiitake mushrooms also have a similar nutty aroma.
