When having a food allergy the body’s immune system reacts unusually to specific foods. Often allergic reactions are mild, but they can also be very serious. Symptoms of a food allergy can appear in different areas of the body at the same time.
Some common symptoms include:
• tingling or itching inside the mouth, throat or ears
• a raised, itchy red rash (so called hives)
• swelling of the face, mouth , throat or other areas of the body
• difficulty swallowing
• shortness of breath or wheezing
• dizziness
• nausea or vomiting
• abdominal pain or diarrhoea
• hay fever-like symptoms, such as sneezing or itchy eyes
