C-reactive protein

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein that is built by the liver. An increase of the CRP levels in the blood means there is a condition causing inflammation somewhere in the body.
With an inflammation, the body is protecting the tissues if they have been injured or have an infection. Symptoms of an inflammation are pain, redness, and swelling in the injured or affected area. Some autoimmune disorders and chronic diseases are associated with inflammatoric processes.
