Introduction:
Vine leaves, also called grape leaves or dolma, are the leaves of the vine, usually pickled in oil or a brine.
Use/Preparation:
The leaves taste good raw, pickled or stuffed, for example with rice or minced meat.
Health:
The plant substances contained protect against free radicals and have beneficial effects on blood pressure, blood lipid levels and the immune system. However, vine leaves, like grapes, are often contaminated with pesticides.
Alternatives:
Cabbage leaves are a popular alternative to grape leaves. Chard leaves or celery leaves can also be used.
