Cranberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea)

Introduction:

The cranberry, also called cranberry or cranberry, is a tart-sour berry that grows on a dwarf shrub in cool areas, near woods and bogs.

Use/Preparation:

Cranberries are often eaten as cranberry jam, jelly or compote with dark meat and game or with cheese. But they are also used in cakes, desserts, muffins, with red cabbage, for juice, liqueur or in cocktails.

Health:

The berry contains vitamin C, B vitamins and provitamin A, as well as magnesium, calcium and potassium. It is said to have sedative, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Alternatives:

Cranberries taste similar to cranberries. However, currants are also an excellent alternative to cranberries as they have a similar tart taste and texture.
