Camomile is a well-known medicinal herb with many different effects. In particular, the flowers and essential oil of chamomile are used.
Use/Preparation:
The uses of camomile are very diverse. Teas, steam baths, tinctures, oils and creams are made from the flowers. In the cosmetics industry, chamomile is often used in care products.
Health:
Chamomile has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, wound-healing and antibacterial properties. It is mostly used as a tea for gastrointestinal disorders, for example for flatulence or abdominal cramps. Because of its anti-inflammatory effect, it is often a component of wound and healing ointments. Chamomile is also helpful for inflammations in the mouth and throat as well as for colds. Due to its calming effect, it is used for nervousness, restlessness and sleep disorders.
Alternatives:
Valerian or lavender tea have a similar calming effect. Peppermint tea also has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect. Sage/sage tea is mainly used for inflammations in the mouth, because it also has an antibacterial effect.
