Hempseed

Hempseed has its origin probably in Central Asia and has grown there for over thousands of years. The unpeeled hempseeds are small oval to round seeds and have a brown, speckled appearance. The taste of the hempseeds is nutty, reminds one of the taste of sunflower seeds and belongs to the category nuts and seeds.
The hempseed consists of 20-25% of high-quality protein, which contains all amino acids essential for humans and has good fatty acid patterns such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in a particularly favorable ratio (1:3). In addition, the hempseed contains calcium, potassium, zinc, iron and magnesium as well as vitamin B1, B2 and E in a relatively high proportion.
At retail, hempseeds are available in peeled and unpeeled form. The seeds are especially used in bread, muesli, cereals, fruit slices, desserts, dips, bread spreads, jam, pestos and smoothies. Please pay attention to the manufacturers’ information on these products in order not to eat any hidden hempseeds.
When excluding hempseeds from your diet, please use an alternative source for the fats of the hempseeds.
