Acai berry has its origin in Brazil. The acai berry is spherical, dark blue and reminds one of blueberries. The flavor of the berry is intense fruity-sweet and slightly chocolatey. The acai berry belongs to the fruit category.
Acai berries are particularly rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids such as omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids and rich in dietary fiber. In addition, the fruit contains minerals such as calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and iron as well as B vitamins, vitamin E and vitamin C. Secondary plant substances such as anthocyanins (pigments), flavonoids, carotenoids, which are said to have antioxidant effects, are mainly contained in the peel of the small berry.
At retail, the fruit is often available in dried or powdered form. Especially suitable are dried acai berries for muesli, yoghurt and curd. The fresh fruits and the juice can be contained in jams, jellies, smoothies and juice mixtures.
Please pay attention to the manufacturers’ information on these products in order not to eat any hidden acai.
