Pectin (E440)

Pectin occurs in all plants and forms one of the scaffolding substances of the cell walls. In the food industry, pectin is mainly used because of its jelly properties, and also serves as a stabilizer or as a thickening agent. It is generally allowed for food and can be found in the following food types:

ketchup
mayonnaise
jams, desserts, fruit cakes
milk products and
calorie free food
