In-vitro-fertilization (also called IVF = latin for fertilization in a glass) is a method of artificial insemination. In this procedure eggs are removed from a woman’s ovary and combined with sperm outside the body with the aim to form embryos. Those embryos are grown in the laboratory for several days and then either placed in a woman’s uterus or frozen (cryopreserved) for future use.
